SSIYSA Raffle: Questions and Answers
Q: Why does the SSIYSA have a raffle?
A: As registration fees provide less than half of the Association’s total revenue, the raffle generates invaluable resources for the Association.
Q: Are there no other means by which the Association can generate revenue?
A: The Association also raises funds through sponsorships, grants, soccer camps, donations, special events, the Thrifty/GVM sales receipt program and the Challenge Cup.
Q: Why do I have to pay $20.00 at the time of registration? Why can’t I sell the tickets instead?
A: The SSIYSA is a volunteer organization and each member should share equally in the responsibility of selling the raffle tickets. In past years there were a disproportionate number of tickets sold by the members as some members sold hundreds of tickets while some sold none.
Q: Is the fee of $20.00 for the raffle not just a means of raising the registration fees?
A: No, a member can recoup the $20.00 by selling the first book of raffle tickets, which they have already paid for, and keep the proceeds.
Q: You mean I get to keep the $20.00 for the book of tickets I receive?
A: Yes, but only for the initial book, the revenue for every all other ticket must be returned to the Association.
Q: Can the member keep their book of tickets for themselves?
A: Yes, the member can put their name on the ticket stubs and return these to be entered into the draw. The member must pay for all additional tickets over the additional book if they wish to enter them into the draw as well.
Q: To help with fundraising for the Association, can a member sell more than their book of tickets?
A: Yes, selling additional books is the members’ way of contributing to the Association just like the coaches, managers and executive do, with the additional proceeds benefiting the players. To provide an incentive the Association provides a prize for the top three ticket sellers.
Q: When do I get my book of tickets?
A: The book of tickets is given out to the members each year through their team’s manager or coach at the beginning of the soccer season in early September. If the tickets are ready in time, they may be given out at the season opener ‘Ice Breaker’.
Q: Is there any other way that I can contribute to the Association?
A: The Association cannot be successful without the work of volunteers and each member can contribute the amount of time that works best for them. Contact any member of the Executive for further information. The more volunteers the more successful the club.
